I have owned, operated, and sold many successful businesses in Southern California during the past twenty-two years. Knowing when to buy, how to choose a location, how to operate a business and when to sell, is essential to its success. It is this first-hand knowledge and experience that I offer to you.

Lance Schmidt received his BA in Business, with an emphasis in Accounting, from Cal State Fullerton, graduating with honors in 1984. Upon graduation, American Stores employed him as an Internal Auditor. In 1987, he accepted an audit position with the firm of Coopers and Lybrand International in Newport Beach, California, where he became a Certified Public Accountant. In 1988, he left Coopers and Lybrand to join National Business Brokers, Inc.

Since joining NBB, Mr. Schmidt has had the opportunity to negotiate the sale of over one hundred businesses and has valued thousands more. He has also provided expert testimony both in court and in arbitration cases. He is a CVA-Certified Valuation Analyst with NACVA, the National Association of Certified Valuators and Analysts and provides Business Valuations and Asset Appraisals that comply not only with NACVA standards but with the Standards of USPAP-Uniform Standards of Appraisal Practice of the American Society of Appraisers (ASA) and Statements on Standards for Valuation Services of the American Society of Certified Public Accountants.

Mr. Schmidt's credentials and hands-on experience in Accounting, Auditing, Management, Business Brokerage and Mergers & Acquisitions uniquely qualify him to provide Certified USPAP Business Valuations and Asset Appraisals, Expert Witness Testimony, Intermediary Services, Business Plans, Exit Planning, and General Business Consulting. Additionally, Mr. Schmidt is a CBB, Certified Business Broker with the California Association of Business Brokers and was their treasurer in 2015.

I’m not just someone trying to sell your business. I’m one part corporate, one part entrepreneur, and one part business geek. Sounds like a recipe but isn’t that how life is sometimes? Bitter, sweet, rich, and sometimes we go hungry. One part corporate- I spent fifteen years in corporate America within various industries: technology, internet, and financial: from customer service to sales. I’ve led, managed, broken records, and set standards.

One part entrepreneur- I founded a clothing company, from concept to finished goods. I understand the hard work and guts that are needed to realize a vision and commit to a plan. Fun fact: I was featured in a TLC reality show featuring up-and-coming fashion designers.

One part business geek- The business geek was always in me, but it came out when I was with a business valuation firm for ten years, doing fieldwork researching businesses and industries. Reading and analysis are my specialties. I was intrigued by the combination of hard work, timing, luck, and grit a business owner needs to build a successful business, raise a family, support employees and their families, and give back charitably.

I apply all of these parts in my practice. I understand how hard it is to create and sustain a profitable business. It’s emotional many times to have to let go, to think about your exit plan during times of good and bad. Selling a business is one part financial, one part art.
